As a trained and certified counselor, Joy brings empathy, openness and complete confidentiality to the counseling journey. Her counseling skills coupled with her corporate experience working with different organizations has made Joy a very non judgmental person who is willing to listen and help people work through their choices as they unravel complex or difficult situations that they are dealing with. Joy’s strengths lie in her ability to articulate, ask relevant logical questions and break down complex situations to co-create a path forward with the counselee towards his/her desired objectives and outcomes. She uses techniques and assessments such as the Rogerian Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Theory, Myers Briggs Personality Assessment, Johari Window, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Gallup Strengths Finder, etc to help counselees get better insights into themselves and how they can better their interactions with others, be it in an individual or a team setting.
After studying at Purdue University (1993), and Carnegie Mellon University (1997) in the United States, she applied her learnings at Accenture and Deloitte Consulting, working across cultures and countries across Asia Pacific. Joy worked with stakeholders to manage change for people working on complex, transformational projects which introduced new ways of working, performance metrics and roles. As the Change Management Manager at Deloitte Consulting, Joy led interventions to align senior client leaders to help them embrace the new changes that their organizations were introducing.
As the Asia Pacific Organizational Effectiveness Leader and Becton Dickinson’s internal university training lead, she worked with high potential individuals and groups to identify development needs, craft training plans and create a learning culture that encouraged people to invest in reskilling and growing. She personally facilitated a range of training programs across North America, Asia and Australia for managers and senior leaders to build their coaching and people development skills.
Having established new ventures over the last decade, Joy also has the skills to empathize and counsel individuals in start-up environments where the challenges and opportunities are very different than in large MNCs/traditional corporates. The most relevant experience, was when she joined as Managing Director to lead the turn-around of an executive search firm, where she provided career guidance and coached professionals to transit to new levels of responsibility across different careers and organizations.
Joy’s sincerity, equanimity, genuine concern for people and her ability to forge deep one on one bonds with people from all walks of life, makes people seek her out to discuss their problems, be it in a personal or professional capacity. Besides counseling, Joy loves to travel, read motivational books and is the ultimate experimental foodie whose travel itineraries are always set up around food!
